Studio Policies

Studio Policies
  1. Instruction: Private lessons focus primarily on technique and repertoire as well as musicianship.

  1. Lesson Plans: Lessons can be flexible depending on the students, but I offer 2 plans.

  1. 2/40: two 40-minute lessons per week with $46 tuition for 40 minutes, which is a 30% discount from the regular rate. This plan is strongly recommended for young beginners (ages 5-9) and transfer students.

  2. 1/60: one 60-minute lesson per week with $77 tuition for 60 minutes.

  1. Payment schedule: Please make checks payable to Aejin Chang or use Zelle at eunmo.koo@gmail.com. Lessons will be billed on a monthly basis at the beginning of each month. Checks should be remitted at the first lesson each month and will total the cost of the number of lessons to be taken during the month.

  1. Cancellations: Lessons canceled with twenty-four (24) hours advance notice will be rescheduled. Students are responsible for paying for lessons canceled without twenty-four hours' notice. No refund will be given for no-shows or tardiness.

  1. Virtual remote lessons: I can give online lessons using FaceTime under special circumstances, such as snow days, sickness, and contact with COVID-19.

  1. Make-up lessons: I do make-up lessons if I am available. If you need to reschedule for missing lessons, please contact me by e-mail or text message.

  1. Thirty-Day Notice of Termination: If a student must discontinue lessons, a written, thirty-day notice is required. Payment is due during this thirty-day period whether or not lessons are taken.

  1. Performances: Los Alamos Music Teachers Association (LAMTA) offers performing opportunities called Musicale in February and April, and Halloween Masquerade Recital in October. Students are encouraged to participate in these performing events.

  1. Competitions: I am a member of 2 professional associations that host competitions.

    1. Professional Music Teachers New Mexico (PMTNM) offers Honours Audition competitions in October (regionals) and November (state).

    2. Music Teachers National Association (MTNA) offers state competitions in September.

  1. Practicing: Students are expected to practice six days each week to count as FULL practice. Full practice will be defined as completing each assignment a specific number of times each day. In order to progress satisfactorily, daily quality practice is necessary and required.

Piano lessons are like a triangle - it takes three sides to make a successful musical experience. The student, parent, and teacher must all work together; hence, cooperation and communication between all parties is essential.
