Instruction: Private lessons focus primarily on technique, repertoire, and musicianship.
Practicing: Students are expected to practice six days per week to count as full practice. Full practice is defined as completing each assignment the specified number of times each day. Consistent, high-quality daily practice is necessary for satisfactory progress.
Lesson Plans: Lessons can be adjusted based on each student’s needs, but I offer three main options:
- 2/30: Two lessons per week, 30 minutes each, at $45 per lesson — a 25% discount from the regular rate. This plan is strongly recommended for young beginners (ages 5–9) and transfer students during the first 3–6 months. (During this period, students typically learn three basic key-attack techniques: Portamento, Staccato, and Legato. To build a strong foundation, having lessons twice a week is highly beneficial.)
- 1/30: One lesson per week, 30 minutes, at $60 per lesson.
- 1/60: One lesson per week, 60 minutes, at $82 per lesson.
Adult Lessons: One 60-minute lesson per week at $99 per lesson
Payment schedule: Please make checks payable to Aejin Chang or use Zelle at eunmo.koo@gmail.com. Lessons are billed monthly at the beginning of each month. Payment should be submitted at the first lesson of the month and will cover the total number of lessons scheduled for that month.
Cancellations: Lessons canceled with at least twenty-four (24) hours’ notice will be rescheduled. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours’ notice must still be paid in full. No refunds will be given for no-shows or tardiness.
Virtual remote lessons: Online lessons via FaceTime can be arranged under special circumstances, such as snow days, illness, or potential COVID-19 exposure.
Make-up lessons: Make-up lessons may be offered if I am available. If you need to reschedule, please contact me by email or text message.
Thirty-Day Notice of Termination: If a student must discontinue lessons, written notice is required thirty (30) days in advance. Payment is still due during this thirty-day period, whether or not lessons are taken.
Performances: The Los Alamos Music Teachers Association (LAMTA) offers performance opportunities called Musicale in February and April, and the Halloween Masquerade Recital in October. Students are encouraged to participate in these events.
Competitions: I am a member of 2 professional associations that host competitions.
- Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico (PMTNM): Offers Honors Audition competitions in October (regional) and November (state).
- Music Teachers National Association (MTNA): Offers state competitions in September. Teachers National Association (MTNA) offers state competitions in September.
The Piano Lesson Triangle: A successful musical experience requires three sides—student, parent, and teacher—working together. Cooperation and communication among all parties are essential.
